Glossary
AMR (automatic meter reading)
Collecting meter readings without a person reading the dial. A module on or inside the meter sends the reading over radio or a cellular network, or through a pulse cable to a logger, and the data reaches a central system. Classic AMR is one-way: the meter reports but takes no commands.
Why it matters
AMR cuts estimated bills and missed readings, and gives a reading for every consumer on the same day. That makes billing disputes easier to settle and losses easier to find.
