MDM (meter data management)

Software that collects readings from meter reading systems, checks them for gaps and errors (often called validation, estimation and editing), stores them against each consumer and connection, and passes clean data to billing and reporting.

Readings are only useful once they are checked, matched to the right account and turned into bills or reports. MDM is where raw data from thousands of meters becomes something a utility can act on.
