Delhi Jal Board approves a South Delhi water project with smart meters and a water loss target

30 September 2026

Industry news

The Delhi Jal Board has approved a water project for South Delhi costed at ₹6,044.05 crore. It covers 247 sq km and 13 underground reservoir (UGR) command areas, which together serve 2,44,381 domestic consumers.

The plan includes smart meters, bulk flow meters, and chlorine and pressure sensors. Its stated aim is to bring non-revenue water, the water a utility supplies but does not bill, below 15 per cent.

A target like that can only be checked if the water going into each area and the water reaching consumers are both measured. Our article on non-revenue water explains how the figure is worked out.
