Glossary
Minimum night flow
The lowest rate of flow into a DMA or zone, usually measured in the early hours of the morning when legitimate use is at its lowest. Subtracting an estimate of legitimate night use gives an estimate of leakage.
Why it matters
A rise from one week to the next often signals a new leak or burst. The method needs supply running through the night, so it suits zones with continuous supply.
