IS 10500 (Indian drinking water standard)

IS 10500:2012 is the Bureau of Indian Standards specification for drinking water. It lists physical, chemical, toxic, bacteriological and radioactive parameters, giving an acceptable limit and, for many parameters, a permissible limit that applies only when no alternative source is available.

It is the reference that water supply schemes, laboratories and housing societies use to judge whether water is fit to drink. A test report should state which IS 10500 parameters were tested.
