Gateway

In a LoRaWAN or similar radio network, the receiver that picks up signals from many meters in range and forwards them over mobile data, fibre or Ethernet to a network server. A gateway does not read meters itself; it relays their messages.

Why it matters

Gateway placement decides whether every meter in a scheme is heard. Hills, buildings and meter pits weaken signals, so a radio survey before installation saves repeat visits later.
